The Wrist:
- the carpus or the lower part of the forearm where it joins the hand.
- the joint or articulation between the forearm and the hand.
The session today will be based around the wrist movement during the release
and throw of the dart. The wrist is the final part of the arm when it comes to
release, it is important that the wrist is correct as it is the one part that affects
the release the most. A poor wrist angle can effectively lead to poor accuracy.
In terms of snapping the wrist at the end of the throw, people have mixed views
on the topic. 'The Dart Thrower' author Karlheinz Zochling thinks the wrist snap
is a good technique for advanced dart throwers, but not advisable for beginners as
it can trade accuracy for power. 'NiceDarts' are another source I found online
and they think the wrist snap is good as you can use it to gain accuracy by having
a slower cock and release action and use the snap to gain the needed power
to hit the board.
I will use the wrist snap to gain power at the end of my throw and have more control
by slowing my cock and release down. Much like the idea of 'NiceDarts'.
During the session, I practised cocking my wrist back and then release forward.
I used the block training for around 20mins and then went away and came back
to it later on and put the release from the elbow and wrist stages together and
practised the snap in the throw.
